The Dragonfly Foundation (Dragonfly), a Cincinnati-based 501c3 nonprofit, is pleased to announce the recipient of our first Student Ambassador Program Scholarship: Ms. Sammi Miller of Sycamore High School in Sycamore Township, OH.
As a dedicated student, Dragonfly volunteer and chair of Sycamore High School’s 13th Annual Fashion For The Cure (FFTC) fundraiser, Ms. Miller has demonstrated outstanding leadership, kindness and compassion. FFTC raised more than $48,000 during the 2018-2019 school year — the largest amount to date. The show sold out, with more than 600 guests in attendance!
Dragonfly’s Student Ambassador Program (SAP) is a student-powered leadership program that encourages students to support Dragonfly’s mission of bringing strength, courage and joy to our Dragonfly families and to bring kindness, compassion, and philanthropy into their homes, schools, and communities. The scholarship opportunity is offered to graduating seniors of participating schools that raise more than $5,000 for Dragonfly during the school year and have been a leader of their school’s SAP and promoted the Dragonfly mission. Applications were reviewed by a committee of Dragonfly board members.
Deb Klemt, Faculty Advisor for FFTC, said, “[Sammi] is a planner, an organizer, and communicator, creative and passionate; in short she is a tremendous leader. She carried off her tasks for a fundraising event with the maturity of a professional. She is one of the two best leaders I have ever worked with in my 33 years as an educator.”
In her scholarship application, Sammi shared what she has gained from her involvement with FFTC and Dragonfly’s Student Ambassador Program: “Reflecting on the many ways I have grown through my involvement with Fashion for the Cure, I am most proud of the self-confidence and leadership skills I have gained, as well as the help I am able to provide for (Dragonfly) families. With Sycamore enrolling as one of the first schools to be a part of the (Dragonfly’s) SAP, it allowed me to be able to share ideas with other school. Dragonfly has become such an important part of my life, I am hoping to keep working with the staff in any way possible.”
On behalf of Dragonfly staff, board members and families, we are grateful for all that Sammi has done to support Dragonfly and the patients and families we serve. Congratulations, Sammi!!!
Dragonfly also recognizes another SAP Leader, Ms. Megan Shaffer of Lakota West High School in West Chester, OH. Megan is one of our Founding Members of the Lakota West SAP. Her advisor, Anne Petersen, said this about this outstanding Student Ambassador Program scholarship candidate: “Megan has been a Dragonfly supporter for years before she began as a Student Ambassador at Lakota West. Megan is consistently responsible, mature, knowledgeable and cheerful in every volunteer role she has filled…Megan is the kind of student that you can count on to represent Dragonfly very well no matter where she is or what she’s doing.”
Dragonfly is grateful to everyone who participated in or supported our Student Ambassador Program. We would like to extend our congratulations and best wishes to all of our graduating seniors, Class of 2019!!
