”I would not have made it…”

”June 28th, 2010. That was the day my life was flipped upside down. Just before starting high school, I was diagnosed with cancer. At a pivotal moment of my childhood, life threw a sucker punch that landed me flat on the ground. I spent the next months in excruciating pain, going through each day became a battle, whether I was in the hospital, running a fever when I didn’t have an immune system or at home in the bathroom because I couldn’t stop vommitting after chemo. “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matter compared to what lies within us”. Even though everyday was a battle, losing was never an option. Not because of the strength I thought I had but the strength people helped me realize I possessed. Without the support of my family, my friends, the hundred people who shaved their heads at my high school, or the Dragonfly Foundation providing comfort and joy in the low moments, I would have not made it to December 8th, 2017 as the person I am today. With the endless support of the community around me, I was able to make it first to December 8th of 2010, the day I became cancer free. Today is my 7th birthday and 7 years of being cancer free!”  — Kyle, A Dragonfly
