Volunteer Policy - Parents of Deceased Patients & Others Who Have Recently Lost a Loved One

The Dragonfly Foundation is grateful for the support of the community, especially from people who have experienced cancer or blood disease in their own families. We understand that there is a need to “pay it forward” and to help others, especially young patients. Some families who come to us offering their time have experienced the death of a loved one due to cancer or blood disease. While we welcome their support and respect their interest in making a difference, we must be cognizant about how our current Dragonfly families may feel about interacting closely with someone who has experienced a loss. For those people who wish to volunteer directly with Dragonfly families, we require a three-year waiting period since the death of a patient. A similar waiting period is recommended for anyone who has suffered a significant loss.
