June 11, 2018 Enquirer.com Article by: Andrea Cruikshank, entitled “”Family of ‘SuperBubz’ starts motorcycle ride to aid Dragonfly”
A motorcycle ride spurred by the family and friends of “SuperBubz” is set for Saturday, June 16, at Queen City Harley Davidson in Fairfield.
The 6-year-old Walter Zayne “SuperBubz” Herbert, of Fairfield, lost his battle with neuroblastoma on Oct. 6, after more than two years of treatment, but not before becoming beloved locally during his courageous fight.
He led the Colerain Cardinals to the field, was named the honorary captain of the Cincinnati Reds for a game, met with the Bengals last September, as well as FC Cincinnati players, Cincinnati police officers and more.
The Ride for Dragonfly is the first event of its kind to aid the Dragonfly Foundation. Sales of patches sold will benefit the Herbert family in memory of “SuperBubz.”
Dragonfly helps young cancer patients and their families by providing a network that connects Dragonfly families to each other and the community, programs that enhance quality of life as well as a partnership for future psychosocial research at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
“A common shared value is about research and finding a cure, and we believe in that, too. But for so many, a cure isn’t guaranteed, and they also need support emotionally, relationally and practically,” said Ria Davidson, co-founder of the Dragonfly Foundation.
“And so Dragonfly has filled an important void in that area, and it’s wonderful to know the Herbert family felt that was a value. For so many families who’s patients don’t make the news, this ride will help those families and ease their burden.”
For those who are unable to attend the ride but would like to donate to the cause, Dragonfly is in urgent need of gift cards and especially gas cards, said Davidson, so that families can commute back and forth to the hospital and stay with patients. Donations are also accepted at dragonfly.org.
Day-of-registration for the June 16 ride is 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Queen City Harley Davidson on Route 4 in Fairfield.
