In this podcast, Dragonfly mom, Brittany, recounts her daughter’s journey from what she thought was an attack of appendicitis to having Kylie’s kidney removed and what The Dragonfly Foundation means to her and her family.
Kylie was four-years-old when she was diagnosed with cancer. Brittany talks with host and Dragonfly co-founder, Ria Davidson, about how she went from “my stomach hurts” to having surgery and a cancer diagnosis. Brittany shares that the family was excited to connect with Dragonfly “so that Kylie could feel like a kid.” She also shared that it “felt good knowing that (Kylie) meant something to other people.”
Brittany’s journey isn’t unique but her story about how Kylie met with Livvy Stubenrauch, the voice of Young Anna in Frozen(TM), to a visit from the Hair Fairy(R) and a heart full of comfort and joy is one you don’t want to miss. She tells of struggles with her daughter’s feeding tube, with financial hardships, and with relationships. She shares how she and her husband found the key to a successful relationship through times when “the stress of feeling like we were missing part of our family.”
She tells Ria that now that she’s a Dragonfly (for a lot longer than they thought – so listen for Ria’s special comment about this) “it feels great to be the one who can be the support and say, ‘I know where you can go.'” Britany reminds us to “be happy in the moment. Enjoy all the good that surrounds you. And, don’t be afraid to admit you need help.”
