Elsa Heisel Sule Foundation Awards Dragonfly $20K Technology Grant

Cancer is made worse when you don’t have access to family, pets, friends, and the world outside the hospital. Technology is an important tool for patients/families to maintain/manage communications, relationships, life circumstances, responsibilities outside of the hospital, education, and employment. The Elsa Heisel Sule Foundation has awarded a $20,801 grant for The Dragonfly Foundation to provide additional laptops, charging stations, and iPads to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s Cancer & Blood Diseases Institute (CBDI) in Cincinnati and Liberty Township, OH.

Dragonfly has already provided Cincinnati Children’s CBDI with more than 50 laptops, dozens of iPads/tablets and video gaming systems, and an industrial-size, high-end Power Tower charging station. The Sule Foundation grant enables Dragonfly to replace broken and/or obsolete equipment and add additional laptops and tablets for patients and caregivers to use while in the hospital. Dragonfly will also be delivering three additional Power Tower charging stations (valued at $5,240 each for a total of $15,720) to Cincinnati Children’s two CBDI locations, specifically Liberty Center’s CBDI Family Lounge, and Cincinnati’s Pediatric Waiting Room and Adolescent/Young Adult Waiting Room.

Stress from isolation and missing family/school/work/social opportunities, along with the fear falling behind while in the hospital, makes a horrible situation that much worse. “You don’t want to be locked/cooped up in your (hospital) room…,” said Jordan Klette-Cusher, Program Officer of the Elsa Heisel Sule Foundation, “you want to be connected to the world in one way or another.”

The technology grant Dragonfly received makes this and so much more possible.
